Dear Runners and Walkers,
These are unprecedented times! We live in a world that thrives on being busy and connected so we are finding new ways to stay in touch while we distance ourselves to stay healthy.
Despite the “new normal”, the 2020 Character Run is still on! The committee feels strongly that this event is a great opportunity to practice perseverance, responsibility and courage. We want to encourage people to continue doing activities they are familiar with so they can maintain optimism and compassion. We may not be able to celebrate completing the Run as a group but we can encourage each other remotely and challenge ourselves to achieve our own goals.
This means that Run participants will be able to complete the Run on their own, choosing a date between May 28 and June 28 and at a time when streets/trails are not crowded or using a treadmill in their homes. We will still be providing Race Kits that include your custom Run T-shirt, an official race bib (although your Run won’t be timed by sportstats.ca this year) and some treats from local businesses. We’ll have more details on where and when you can safely pick up your Race Kit in the coming days.
Although we can’t celebrate together at the finish line, all Runners are encouraged to send us “selfies” wearing their custom Run t-shirts. We’ll share these on our website and social media so we can all share in your achievement. When you see a Run t-shirt on the street or at the store, you can feel proud to be part of an event that brings us together while we have to stay apart.
Community is more than just living in the same area. The success of this year’s Virtual Character Run will be thanks to you, our committed walkers and runners and for that we say a huge Thank You! As this is our only fundraiser of the year, we appreciate your support as we try to encourage physical and mental good health while we connect virtually with our neighbours.
Thanks again for your support of the Character Run.
