The Community of Character is excited to promote "Inclusive Trick or Treating" this fall. We know kids love Halloween and look forward to going to door to door to collect treats but we also know this can be a challenging time for some families. Children or caregivers may struggle physically to climb steps to doors, some children can't tolerate wearing a costume or manage the anxiety of speaking to strangers... Many of these challenges can easily be overcome with just some extra effort or thought and we would like to encourage people to consider how they can make Halloween more enjoyable for all children this year.
We have teamed up with Giant Tiger (Listowel store) to offer the attached list of suggestions of how parents and residents can adjust the traditional Halloween experience to make it more enjoyable for everyone. Giant Tiger will also be handing out posters that residents can post on their front windows/yards advising parents that they have taken extra effort to make trick or treating easier so parents can plan their Halloween routes accordingly. We are happy to hear any feedback on this program! |
