The "Character Card" project began at North Perth Community Living at one of their staff character meetings. I attended the "Together We're Better" annual celebration on Sept. 23, 2010 and was approached by Heidi Long and Tracy Wareham. They presented a card to me for working toward bringing "Challenge Day" to our community. "Challenge Day" is a program designed to unite community members as it strives to make acceptance, connection, and inclusion, the norm in our community. It is an honour to work toward such a goal and a joy to see others in our community see the value of this program and to be motivated to continue building a community of character through the "Character Card" project. Thank you Heid and Tracy

This post couldn’t be written any better! Reading this post reminds me of my previous room mate! He always kept chatting about this. I will forward this page to him. Fairly certain he will have a good read.

We presented Sue Shepski with a Character Card at the 5th Annual Together We're Better Character Night.
We feel Sue is very deserving of Character recognition for all of her hard work and dedication to the Challenge Day program at LDSS.

I was thrilled to give my Character Card to my 14 year old son Zachary. He always demonstrates all the attributes contributing to "a good Community Character" but last week blew me away. His uncle recently announced his girlfriend was expecting. It was a wonderful announcement however a bit unexpected.Zachary without anyone knowing, took all the money he had and put it in an envelope with a note expressing how blessed he was to be able to help him out. Uncle Josh was so touched at Zachary's thoughtfulness and so were the rest of our family. Zachary, you are an inspiration to many and I am proud to have you as my son.Your are the epitome of everything that builds a good character. Respect, empathy, integrity, honesty, inclusion and the list goes on. May you always continue with your inspiring ways.

Wow I am inspired by so many wonderful people in Listowel. We sure are a Community of Character. With not enough Character Cards to give out I'd like to recognize the genuine smiles of so many servers that welcome me when I walk into our Tim Horton's especially Jean and Joanne, and the cheerful but unknown giver in the drive thru that pays for my coffee just when I think no one does random acts of kindness anymore, the thoughtful stranger that holds a door open for me, the driver that waves me ahead when turning even though they may be holding up a long line of traffic, the anonymous people that pick up garbage on the trail while out walking their dog, the multitudes of voluteer workers all over the town that make it possible for people to have something to do or someplace to go, all the people that smile and say hello on the street...just because, the owner 'Rizwan' at Mac's Milk because he makes me feel special just by getting gas, Jen and Val from Giant Tiger who always greet me when I shop at the store, the young lady at Food Basic's with long sandy blone hair in the produce department that seems to love every customer that walks in the door... I can go on and on...Listowel truly has some wonderful 'Character's' and I am blessed to call it home.

I felt quite honoured to receive the Character Card from Stephanie. Thank you. Elmira District Community Living invited Stephanie, Brandon and Sarah from Community Living North Perth to speak and share their presentation on a Community of Character with our association committee members, staff and guests. Stephanie, Brandon, Sarah, you are awesome, not only in compassion for, but empathizing with, so well; showing that after five years Listowel truly is a Community of Character. Sarah and Brandon your genuine friendship and respect for one another, helping each other where a little boost is needed is inspiring. Stephanie your openness, encouraging us to take from this presentation all points and tips that could be helpful to our association; offering to come and help us with our endeavour - you epitomize all the attributes you encourge in a Community of Character. Three great ambassadors for you Community of Character and the Community of Character Council.

I just started a new job at the Early Years Center in Listowel about 3 and a half months ago. Getting use to the different programs, I was also signed up do to lots of workshops and had lots of meetings to go to. Doing the workshops were great experiences for me and only helped me grow as an Early Childhood Educator. During the busy month of October Debbie had called me to see if I could fill in for another employee because her child was sick. Even though I had worked all week and went to a workshop that weekend I still was up for the job. Debbie said even though the month had been so busy I showed compasion, empathy, and perseverence for I just kept on going! I felt honored to get this card, but at the same time I know that everyone involved with the Early Years Center would do the same for me!
